In Hebrew, the word used for "charity" is tzedakah . However, the true meaning of tzedakah is "justice" or "righteousness". It is only just and right that we give back to the world and not merely take from it. The world in which we live today is unfinished and imperfect, and we, G-d's partners in the universe, must do our share. By giving to charity, we help repair and perfect the world, a kabbalistic concept called Tikkun Olam. The charities listed below are just some of Roy Doliner's favorites, but please give what you can - either in money, time or energy or all three - to the tzedakah of your choice.
